Behind the flowers

"I've been building things my whole life."

Thirty-five years of florals. Hundreds of weddings, workshops, and farewells. I've been in hospital rooms and at altars, around workshop tables and at gravesides — and what I know is this: flowers show up when words can't.‍ ‍

I'm an accredited member of the American Institute of Floral Designers (AIFD) and a Certified Evaluating Judge. But what I'm most proud of is the way people feel when they leave one of my workshops or see their wedding florals for the first time.

Flowers are expression. They are resilience in bloom; and I’d love to create something beautiful with you.

Just in time for Thanksgiving, we’re turning up the color, culture, and corazón. 💃🌺
Sofrito y Flores is a floral design class inspired by the vibrant, aromatic base found in many Latino kitchens—sofrito. Known for bringing dishes to life, sofrito is a bold blend of onions, garlic, peppers, tomatoes, and herbs… and in this class, those very ingredients become part of the design.

We’ll create a lush, expressive arrangement using fresh flowers alongside elements like peppers, garlic, onions, herbs, and tomatoes—celebrating texture, color, and the beauty of tradition. Each region has its own version of sofrito, and just like cooking, your design will reflect your own style and flair.

This class is about gathering, storytelling, and designing something meant to be seen, smelled, and felt—perfect for your Thanksgiving table or as a conversation-starting centerpiece.

This aromatic blend typically consists of finely chopped ingredients such as onions, garlic, bell peppers, tomatoes, and a variety of herbs, with each region offering its own unique twist. The beauty of sofrito lies in its versatility; it can be used as a base for soups, stews, rice dishes, and more, infusing them with a rich depth of flavor. In Puerto Rican cuisine, for instance, sofrito often includes culantro and ají dulce, lending a sweet and herby profile, while Cuban versions might incorporate citrusy notes. Whether you're sautéing it in a pan to release its fragrant oils or blending it into a sauce, sofrito is a vibrant, colorful testament to the fusion of cultures and flavors that define Latino culinary traditions.
